Confidence or Arrogance
Many moons ago after returning from America, living in Denver, Colorado for four and a half years, we started a hair and beauty salon in a suburb called Hawthorne, in Brisbane. A beautiful suburb on the river. And when we had that salon, we attracted a lot of the locals.
And one of the guys that came in was a local real estate agent, who had just started his own agency. All of the salon staff looked at this guy, and thought he was arrogant. Whenever he was in there, he was always busy. His phone was going off and people thought that he was a bit of an arrogant guy, probably because of the way he came across in their eyes.
At that time, one of the things I wanted to do was go into real estate. We built up the salon up in a couple of years. We had nine staff. Taking an empty old convenience store, we turned it into a very nice upmarket salon. It was time to start in real estate, and obviously this guy was one of the guys that I wanted to have a chat with about getting into real estate, which I did.
After getting a job there, I realized that he wasn't arrogant at all. He was actually very, very confident. He knew where he was going. He knew what he wanted to do. He was a young guy, and very much a go getter. Quite often, we can look at people who come across as being arrogant, but really aren't.
Go Getters and Visionaries
They're just go getters. They're visionaries and they're driven to get somewhere. Now, he never put anyone down, never talked down to anybody or about anybody. There was no reason for us to think that he was arrogant or up himself. The reality is, he was very confident, very positive in who he was.
At the same time as he seemed like he was a little bit arrogant, there was an attraction to him. And that attraction was around the fact that he knew where he was going. And whatever you're doing, it's really important for us to be confident in who we are, knowing where we're going.
Question Time
I want to ask a quick question.
well actually a couple of them.
Number one, do you know who you are? Your identity, who you are as an individual, as a person, and all the different hats you got to wear.
Number two, where are you going? What are you doing? What is the legacy you want to leave behind? Because if you've got that, you'll have a natural confidence, something that's not an arrogance.
Some people may see it as arrogant, but it's not. It's a confidence of knowing who you are and where you're, what you're wanting to do and where you're wanting to go. That will make a lot of difference to you and your whole entire life.
