Do you think about what you think about - part 2

Part 1 - Review

In part one, last week’s email we talked about how, according to Dr Fred Luskin of Stanford University, The average person has over 60,000 thoughts a day. Of those 60,000, 90% of them are repetitive – through the day and from previous days!

Then we had a challenge - when you have these negative thoughts, stop and think about why you have those negative/unhelpful thoughts.

A lot of people get upset with themselves about having these thoughts come into their minds. I want to address this in 2 ways.

You are not alone

Firstly, you are not alone, everybody has thoughts like this everyday. Having the thoughts is not the problem (although we’ll discuss how to reduce the number of them shortly). It’s what you do with those thoughts.

The major sports stars, brilliant business leaders all have these thoughts. The key is what you do with them. If you entertain them, think about them “meditate” on them. That will start to direct your life in that area. You can move those thoughts out of your mind, by focusing on something different, or thinking of something positive instead of the negative thoughts.

EG - You’re worried about a client who is going to leave you, so you’re thinking of all of the negative things that could come with that. Start thinking of ways you can keep that client, what can you do better for that client, how can you improve your service to them? This can have a very positive effect for your business and what you are offering current and future clients.

The second thing of course is...

what do you put into your mind?

Whatever your put into your mind is how you are naturally going to think. If you put negative things in, that’s what you’re feeding your mind, so that is what’s going to grow.

You have probably heard the story:

An old Cherokee Indian chief was teaching his grandson about life.

He said to his grandson, "A fight is going on inside me, a fight between two wolves”.

The Dark one is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego."

Then he continued, "The Light Wolf is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.

The same fight is going on inside you grandson…and inside of every other person on the face of this earth.”

The grandson thinks about this and then asks his grandfather, “which wolf will win?"

The old Cherokee smiled and simply said, "The one you feed".

What are you feeding your mind - books, podcasts, movies, Youtube etc.

Is it time to stop and think about what you think about?
